I’m so excited to be sharing my mood board for my golden retriever nursery theme! A neutral nursery theme with nods to our baby’s soon-to-be best friend.
If you know me in real life, you know my golden retriever, Brody. And you know how obsessed with him I am. Even if you don’t know me in real life, you can probably find him in the background of most of my photos (he loves to be involved!). That being said, it should come as a surprise to *no one* that when I found out I was pregnant, I instantly had my heart set on a golden retriever themed nursery.
Mood Board for Golden Retriever Nursery Theme
Golden Retriever Nursery Prints + Dog Wall Art
Art is a great way to lean into a theme as it can be easily changed later on as your little one grows up in case your theme changes as they do! Not to mention, kid room wall art is relatively inexpensive compared to wallpaper or perhaps overly-themed fabric on custom curtains. I found this adorable golden retriever dog print series on Etsy that I plan to hang as a duo or a trio. Fun fact: this print from Etsy is also sold pre-framed at McGee & Co for $180, but only in one size non-returnable. I know which route I will be going, but if you are looking for a ready-to-hang option, it’s there for you!

Golden Retriever Mobile
There are a few makers on Etsy that sell custom golden retriever mobiles that are absolutely adorable. You can even customize the color of the dog, bandana, and pom poms to match your specific nursery color scheme!
Crib
Our house is very mid-century modern, so it felt fitting to tie in that style with this west elm x pbk Mid-Century Convertible Crib in the color acorn. I loved the idea of mixing wood tones so I didn’t get tied into everything having to match one tone of wood throughout the whole room. It is SO pretty in person, and can convert to a toddler bed down the line!
Dresser
In my mood board I show the Ikea Hemnes Dresser, which I used to own and love in white. However, when I went to go pick it up, I was saddened to find out that due to recalls they’ve changed the drawer functionality so the drawers only pull out halfway, making the dresser almost unusable. The Ikea staff mentioned they’ve unfortunately had a lot of negative feedback on the change, but bottom line: the current Hemnes dresser isn’t the same that many of us have grown to love! That being said, I went with the Ikea IDANÄS dresser whose drawers – at time of writing – haven’t been affected by recall regulations. It’s not online anymore, but if you can find it in stores, I highly recommend!
This black dresser was my runner up if I hadn’t gone with the Ikea IDANÄS.
Nursery Glider
I purchased the Radius Fabric Power Swivel Glider Recliner after a friend swore by hers, and my goodness, I am so glad I did. I practically live in this chair now, it’s so comfy. I love that it has a quiet power recline and USB charging ports located on the inside arm of the chair (I don’t love when the buttons are visible on the outside of the chair!). I also really love the two arm pillows that come with it – they really cushion you in and I imagine will be nice and comfy for when baby comes + for breastfeeding.
Rug
I found such a good deal on this Chris Loves Julia x Loloi Polly plaid rug from Wayfair. Yes, it was still expensive, but I got it when it was on sale and the quality is SO good – it’s fairly thick so it lays nicely right away and looks high quality. Bonus: I’ve already spilled coffee on it and it cleaned up wonderfully, which I imagine will be an important quality with a baby boy…!
Shelves
I stumbled upon the Theo Wall Mount Ladder Bookshelf from Nathan James and am SO glad I did. I will warn you, the six-shelf option is large. As in much larger than I anticipated (one of those objects online may be larger in real-life situations), which was slightly alarming putting together, but now I am in love with it. The substantial size, in my eyes, says “this wasn’t a cheap shelf off Amazon.” It’s going to be so fun to style with stuffed animals, books, pictures and toys!
While my actual nursery is still a work in progress (and I will for sure report back with photos and a full breakdown when it’s finished, hopefully soon!), I hope this helps you if you’re also looking to theme a nursery for your new baby after your furry best friend!
