If organizing beauty products has been on your to-do list for a while (like it was for me!), let me share a few tips to help you get it done.
Why it’s important to be intentional about organizing your beauty products
The “out of sight, out of mind” phrase could not apply more here. If you’re throwing all of your beauty products and samples into a box and then storing them in a closet, chances are you’ll forget what you have and not reach for items as often as if they were stored neatly and a little more intentionally.
The secret – in my experience – is to organize them in a way that feels like shopping, so when you need a new mascara you go “Oh, I’ll go shop from my sample shelf!” vs. ordering online (because you know you never end up just ordering what you need – other things hop in! $$$).
Plus, the process of organizing them in the first place will help you take inventory so you know what you have – and help you get rid of things that might be old/ready to get rid of.
Best organizers for organizing beauty products
I scored my 16-drawer acrylic organizer from Home Goods for around $35–(the exact one is here on Amazon but it’s over $215, why?!), but any acrylic or craft organizer is going to be your best bet. The drawers are perfect for tiny beauty samples, easy to see into, and typically have a great place to put a label.
Alternatievly, I also love a lot of the Home Edit products from The Container Store!
Once you have your beauty products contained in an organized, easy to see way – put them somewhere with easy access (think bathroom, linen closet, etc.). That way they’re within reach when you need them!
How to create labels for beauty sample organization
There is absolutely no need to go out and buy a fancy label machine! I simply printed out a list of categories on this sticker paper (works in any normal printer!), cut them out, and stuck them on the drawers. Honestly, the hardest part was narrowing it down to 16 categories! I printed a few alternates to have on hand in case I need to switch a drawer in the future.
Tip: Once you get the sticker paper, you can create so many fun customized labels for around your house! It’s addicting.
Where to get beauty samples
If you’re simply here wondering “Where the heck is this girl getting all of these beauty samples?”, I’ll come clean. I am absolutely in love with the Allure Beauty Box (I’ve been a subscriber since it first launched in 2017!). Each month you get 6+ products (3+ full size) handpicked by Allure editors, valued at over $100. I have found several of my holy grail beauty products through the box and find that it actually helps me save money because I have so many beauty products on hand to try all the time!
If you want to try it for yourself, you can use this link to get $10 off!
What to do with extra beauty samples
Lastly, if you find yourself surrounded by too many beauty samples than you can keep up with (me, often!), here are a few more ideas on how to use them:
- Use them for travel – Skip the travel size aisle at Target before your next trip and pick from your existing stash instead.
- Stock your guest bathroom – Create a little basket that you pull out and put in your bathroom when you have overnight guests to help them feel at home in case they forgot anything. This gives hotel vibes!
- Get creative and share with friends – You can always make a friend’s day by passing along things you might like or creating a beauty ball to share with girlfriends at a girls’ night. Your friends will appreciate it!
