I’m Pregnant! [1st Trimester Pregnancy Update]

I can’t believe I’m writing this as it still feels very surreal – but…I’m PREGNANT! What a way to start a New Year, right? My husband and I weren’t even officially trying yet, but here we are – getting ready for a new wild ride!

I couldn’t be more excited (or nervous) for everything that is to come. It was such a special holiday season being able to share the news with friends and family and have something a little extra to celebrate this year!

If I’ve been a little quiet lately, you now know why – I’ve been taking time to take it all in while getting through the first trimester. Overall I’ve been feeling fairly good minus off-and-on headaches and feeling like I could fall asleep at any given minute of the day. Pregnancy exhaustion is no joke!

Note: I wrote a pretty raw journal entry right after finding out (spoiler alert: it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies when I first found out). It makes me a little sad to read back on now, but think it’s important to share in case anyone else had a similar fear-rooted reaction.

Right now, I’m officially at 15 weeks with a due date of June 26. It is crazy to think there will be a little one here to rock life as we know it in just under 6 months! Time is absolutely crawling, a big part I think due to not knowing the gender yet (though we’ll find out in three weeks!). As soon as we find out, you can bet I’ll be digging into all things nursery and projects! Fingers crossed my energy kicks into gear around that time, too.

If anyone is interested (mainly this is for my own memory!), I’ve been trying to loosely document how things have been changing from week to week. Enjoy – and please send ALL the first-time mom advice my way!

First Trimester Symptoms by Week

Week 4 – Extreme bloating/fullness. Like – EXTREME. But I didn’t know why yet.
Week 5 – This is when I found out. Hormones made my reaction a little dramatic! I may have said my life was over (I can laugh about it now!).
Week 6 – This was the week of heightened smell, especially when cooking. And then later, I could taste garlic on my breath like I’ve never tasted it before. It was wild! Also, cue breast tenderness – was not expecting that so soon!
Week 7 – Meat got a little less appetizing. Chicken in particular, especially if I was the one cooking it. It just doesn’t taste right. Regrets for choosing chicken as my entree at weddings.
Week 8 – Exhaustion kicked in. I stopped forcing myself to wake up early for the gym and allowed myself to sleep in. Also started embracing a guilt-free lunchtime nap. Hungry all the time. We had our first ultrasound at the end of this week! It was so surreal to see baby live and wiggling around in there! Squirmy with a heart rate of 181.
Week 9 – Hungry. So hungry. Waking up in the middle of the night raiding the fridge hungry. Some insomnia.
Week 10-11 – An exhausted blur. Lots of naps, but willing to take that over nausea. Starting to show! Unsure if it’s the baby or all the snacks.
Week 12 – 13 – Slightly less exhausted, but replaced with headaches and a horrible migraine. Less of a hungry hippo. Had our first appointment with my actual doctor and got to see baby again on a smaller handheld ultrasound device. Baby waved and we got to listen to the heart rate (which thankfully had calmed down from last time)!

It’s crazy how some days I forget what is happening and others it’s all I can think about. I can’t wait to keep experiencing all the new changes.

More to come!!

How to dry hydrangeas for the fall! The best DIY f How to dry hydrangeas for the fall! The best DIY fall decor ✨The key here is picking your hydrangea stems just as they’re starting to turn color, rinsing them in soapy water to get rid of bugs, then using the evaporation method to dry flowers so the water evaporates and doesn’t mold the stems - but the stems dry happy and keep the flowers the color you picked them at. Optional - spray with hairspray to keep them from shedding. These dried hydrangeas will last you all year! Go pick your stems before it’s too late…!

SO happy with how this DIY IKEA Pax closet turned SO happy with how this DIY IKEA Pax closet turned out (my second time building one!) - my only regret is not doing it sooner. All that’s left is doing one other corner + trim, but I’m impatient so you can find me moving clothes in and organizing for the foreseeable future 👗👚🧥SIDENOTE: The new Pax 2.0 are 100x easier to put together than the original - but look the same and are compatible with earlier Pax. I’m a big fan! #ikea #ikeapax #diycloset #paxwardrobes #ikeahack
