If you have way too many beauty samples and are looking for something fun to add to your Galentine’s Day party ideas, you need to make this saran wrap beauty ball.
If you’ve been to a Galentine’s Day party, you know the essentials. Mimosas? Check. Pink desserts? Check. Chick-Fil-A nuggets? Hopefully check.
But if you’re looking for a unique activity – look no further than the beauty ball game. I came up with the idea because I needed to purge my beauty sample collection. I subscribe to so many beauty subscription boxes–Allure Beauty Box, Ipsy, Birchbox–and as a result, am constantly swimming in beauty samples. Entirely way too many for one person to go thorough, and my poor “I’ll use these when I travel!” drawer hasn’t seen enough travel to keep up.
What is a beauty ball?
A Galentine’s Day take on the saran wrap game, this beauty ball is simply a giant ball of saran wrap with layers and layer of little prizes inside. Usually people include shots, candy, lottery tickets, small gift cards, etc.
Beauty ball game rules
There’s several ways to play – and you can definitely switch up the rules, but the gist of it is this:
- Have everyone sit in a circle. To determine who gets the ball first, roll a set of dice – the first person to roll doubles gets to start unwrapping the ball (preferably wearing oven mitts!)
- While the un-wrapper is unwrapping as much a they can, the person to their left is rolling dice until they get doubles. Once they roll doubles, they get the ball.
- Repeat until everything is unwrapped!
Tips for creating a beauty saran wrap ball:
- You’ll want the biggest/high value item in the center of the ball. which means you want to START your wrapping with that item since you’re creating it from the inside out.
- Alternate between normal and the peel and stick kind to make it harder
- Get aggressive with how much saran wrap you use. If you don’t use enough in between items, it’ll be too easy and one person could get through it in one turn.
- Break the saran wrap a few times while wrapping so that people have to re-find the end to get it going again. Prevents a clean sweep!
- Want to get REALLY intense? Stick a hair dryer on it so it shrinks up and really clings together
- Make people wear oven mitts when playing. Yes, you’ll look dumb, but it’ll make the game more fun and last longer.
- Have multiple sets of dice so you’re not killing time passing the dice around. People will get distracted watching what the unwrapper is getting!
What to put in your saran wrap ball:
- Beauty samples!
- Travel size things
- Candy, fruit snacks, gum
- Face masks
- Shots (up to you if the house rule is you have to take it before you can keep unwrapping!)
- I love the occasional gag gift. Get creative.galentines-day-party-ideas-beauty-ball-tutorial
- Bulk gifts/stocking stuffer type items so that everyone can leave with one of something (claw clip, spa headband, etc.)
1. Infamous triangle powder puffs, 2. 8-Pack Spa Headbands, 3. 8-pack claw clips, 4. Kitsch Spiral Hair Ties
If you end up doing this at your Galentine’s Day party, I’d love to hear how it goes!
